One thing I know for sure is when a person has an injury they will do anything to try and get better as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we live in a world where we’re so trusting we hope our respective therapists have all the answers to fix or cure any alignments we may be going through. In many cases, they can tell us exactly what’s required to avoid the symptoms and often their advice is followed with a prescription.

Through my experience and sports injuries I’ve had over the years I appreciate all the advice and information my therapist/s shared. For the most part they’ve been completely accurate with their diagnosis of me however, like many of us I found their diagnosis of my injuries were not sustainable over the long haul and there’s so many of us who hate taking prescription drugs. Since using Whole Body Vibration for over 5 years I can honestly say I found sustainability along with no re-occuring injuries. I noticed reduced inflammation to areas of my body that have caused me discomfort for years.

Last year, I introduced T-Zone whole body vibration to a number of therapists who weren’t familiar with whole body vibration technology and here’s what they said collectively after using the machine for over a month:

• Neuromuscular re-education
• Rehabilitation
• Reciprocal movement
• Rejuvenates the reflexes

I could keep adding to the list with all the testimonies they shared. I think we would all agree the therapists have the education, experience and research to immediately understand however, sometimes there is information outside of their radar they haven’t tested or discussed.

Over the past 3 years there has been consistent new case studies of improved results. This is probably why all of them snatched up T-Zone whole body vibration machines to use with their patients. Now this doesn’t mean there’s therapists that don’t have a different perspective however, I believe the optimist finds opportunity in every difficulty and the pessimist finds difficulty in every opportunity.

All I know is if I ever experience another injury that requires me to go to a therapist, I’ll be looking for a Whole Body Vibration machine in their clinic. If not I hope they’ll be optimistic about hearing what their peers have to say. If not, I’d be looking for another therapist.

For those people who have chronic shoulder and upper back problems, I recommend my favourite rehabilitation routine for 10 mins a day minimum:

Sitting on the machine (Speeds above 25) – Sit on the machine with palms flat and arms straight not locked beside your booty or gluteus and stick your chest out. Speeds above 25 are great for massage. Also, while in this position slowly drop your ear as close to your shoulders as you can holding it for 2-5 seconds before going to the other side to stretch your neck too.

Thanks for reading and I’ll meet you at the top.

We are happy to be able to provide a post from Lloyd Shaw, who is considered one of the biggest experts in Whole Body Vibration worldwide. Lloyd Shaw is one of the pioneers of Whole Body Vibration and is based out of New Zealand.

Therapy Poses, Training Poses – What’s the difference?
And how it applies to my weight loss program.
By Lloyd Shaw

To understand the massive differences in all the poses that can be done on a vibration training platform (which number in the hundreds according to all the posters out there) can seem like a daunting task. But the fact is the “principles” involved are very, very simple.

With any vibration platform you are only really dealing with some basic physics…..

(1) Speed of the platform (usually measured in vibration per second = HZ)

(2) Amplitude of the platform (how far the platform moves in each vibration)

(3) How much you weigh

(4) Gravity

(5) Correct posture creating tension in the muscles so all the above can work together

It is common sense to anybody that has ever done any kind of workout, in or out of the gym, that the more weight behind a load, the harder your muscles have to work. In Vibration Training nothing about these principles change.

A “heavy” pose will always burn more energy than a “light” pose.

Eg. the basic squat.

In this position 100% of your body weight is used as the basic resistance factor. Your legs muscles being forced to work against the vibration and gravity (which is of course trying to pull you straight down) So being up over the top of your own weight is the “best” you can do.

Compare that with any pose where you have one foot on the ground and another on the machine, so only some of your body weight is behind the pose, and you will find they do not compare in intensity. The more weight behind any pose, the more of a workout it becomes.

In fact I would go so far as to say that anything below 30% of what you weigh, in any pose should not be considered a workout position.

A classic example to really clarify this principle is the Kneeling Push-Up as opposed to the Advanced Push-Up .

One of these things is not like the other…

What’s the difference?
Weight and joint angles

In the Kneeling Push-Up only 30% of your body weight is put on your arms, where as in the Advanced Push-Up it is 70% – (over a 200% increase in workload between poses).

Now imagine if you knelt down quite far away from the machine, and just lightly put your hands on the plate while it vibrates them. Do you think that’s going to burn any energy? Of course not. Which is the reason why foot massagers have never helped with weight loss. Just coming into contact with vibration is not Vibration Training.

So how does that relate to results…

Well think about this, if you went to a Physio Therapist you would not expect to be put through a tough, weight loss workout. Why? Because it is primarily about light precise movements to help bring back function from an injury or circulation. At least that is what I would say constitutes most peoples idea of Physio Therapy.

No one I know of has ever gone to their Physio Therapist for weight loss or a serious workout.

But if you go to a personal trainer at the Gym you can bet they are going to be pushing you, and some ”pressure” is going to be added to your body somewhere. At the gym they will probably use a weight, in Vibration Training we use your own body weight. But they have the same thing in common, the word ”weight” is in there somewhere.

So in very simple terms, here are some guidelines anyone can follow …….

Almost no body weight being put into the pose = Simple therapy and stimulation

Significant body weight put into a position + correct posture = Vibration Training

We found an article on healthcanal.com you might find interesting – more is not always better!

A La Trobe University study has found that performing low load gluteal muscle exercises enhances strength and power in the lower body during exercise.

Lead author Justin Crow from La Trobe’s School of Physiotherapy and researchers tested the effect of warm-up exercises on 22 elite AFL players to enhance performance.

‘We found that body-weight gluteal exercises increase explosiveness in your lower half,’ says Mr Crow.

‘Low load exercises of this nature are likely to be more acceptable to the athlete and coach than are protocols incorporating heavier loads because of a lower risk of athlete fatigue and minimal equipment requirements.’

‘A warm-up protocol involving low load exercises targeting the gluteal muscles is effective at acutely enhancing explosive power output in the lower limbs’ he says.

The researchers compared three warm-up methods on AFL players including the low load exercise protocol squatting on a whole body vibration machine and a control protocol where athletes did no warm-up.

‘The players that performed the low load gluteal exercises were more powerful during jumping than those in the control group and weight-bearing vibration group.’

‘Coaches may consider this protocol when preparing athletes for competition or training in sports involving explosive lower limb movements such as jumping, sprinting, and some weightlifting movements’ he says.

According to Mr Crow the research also shows that a simple non-weight bearing warm-up can help any athlete’s performance.

‘This is something to keep in mind for people of all exercise levels. Although the study was based on elite athletes, it does show that low load warm up exercises are a great way to enhance athletic performance at any level.’

The study—Low load exercises targeting the gluteal muscle group acutely enhance explosive power output in elite athletes—was originally published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and is available on request.

Reposted from: http://www.healthcanal.com/life-style-fitness/28564-Warm–increase-athletic-performance.html

What are the benefits of having a home gym vs. going to the gym? The fact that you’re doing exercises is a benefit for your body. Having a Home gym vs going to the gym all boils down to 7 things:

1) You get to train anytime you want without having to wait for anyone. Your schedule, your time.

2) Nobody gets to judge you. Remember the competition is always with yourself nobody else.

3) You get to train with whoever you enjoy being around. I believe energy flows where attention goes. So nobody’s negative energy has to bring you down.

4) No monthly fees. Do the math, if you own your own equipment, over the course of 3yrs you have a dramatic savings versus the costs that can pile up with a monthly membership fee.

5) Music. You get to play the type of music you enjoy versus what’s already pre programmed at gyms.

6) You never have a weather restriction stopping you from training.

7) You want a machine that is able to do multiple things. If you buy to much equipment that’s not needed, the unused equipment becomes a clothes hanger.

Based on the above information, your perfect home gym is a T-zone Whole Body vibration machine. It can do all your body parts and give your body the much needed massage we all enjoy.

Thanks for reading and as always I’ll meet you at the top!
